Young horses need any number of regular health checks throughout their development. However one of the questions I am frequently asked is how to worm a young horse (or any horse).
Regardless of the age or stage of development of your horse, you must be able to confidently handle and care for your horse(s) throughout their lifetime as part of good horse ownership and basic animal welfare.
If a horse has an issue with it's mouth being touch, then that needs to be addressed - but it is likely the issue is not with the horses mouth or being wormed at all - but in its groundwork and understanding of what is expected of it.
If you choose to battle through using force, or overpowering - you may create an issue for the lifetime of that horse and future owners - and also put yourself, your vet, your farrier and the horse itself at risk of injury.
Safer Handling Demonstrations are available to attend throughout the year. Please message to put your name down to be added to the next available demonstration.
